Motor Neurone Disease conference - Launceston (23 Oct 2009)

On 23rd October 2009 MND Tasmania and MND Victoria are hosting an MND forum for health professionals and interested parties. This will be a highly informative forum with key speakers from Victoria and Tasmania.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr Michael Dreyer, Director of Neurology, Royal Hobart Hospital
  • Dr Paul Dunne, Senior Palliative Medicine Physician, Palliative Care Service, DHHS, and
  • Dr Susan Mathers,  Clinical Director of Neurology, Calvary Health Care Bethlehem, Victoria.

MND Annual Conference 2009 - Call for abstracts
In June 2009 the MND Annual Conference will be hosted by MND NSW in Sydney. A call for abstacts has now been released and is available by clicking here
 
CPA Australia and Motor Neurone Disease Tasmania

n 2008 CPA Australia announced a new initiative called the 'President's Charity'. Motor Neurone Disease was chosen by the current CPA Australia President (Alex Malley) as the charity of choice for 2008. During the year a number of events were hosted by CPA Australia with Motor Neurone Disease promoted.

One of the events hosted was "Breakfast with the Treasurer" at annual event the incumbent Tasmanian Treasurer attends to announce the following budget and major initiatives within it. A photo is attached with the CPA and MND Tas representatives.

New Regional Advisor for Tasmania!

It is with great pleasure that MND Tasmania can announce the commencement of Jennene Arnel to the new position of MND Tasmania Regional Advisor. A collaboration between MND Tasmania and MND Victoria has resulted in a 3 year funding agreement with a philanthropic trust.

This will mean Jennene, as part of a family support service in Tasmania will be employed part-time to assist people living with MND to navigate their way through health, disability and other services within the state.

MND Awareness Week 2009 (3-9th May 2009)
During MND Awareness Week in May 2009 people living with MND around Australia have the opportunity to highlight the fight and struggle of living and caring with MND. This year MND Australia is pressuring government and raising awareness by ensuring that people with MND live better for longer until a possible treatment or even cure is discovered.

Motor Neurone Disease Awareness Week 2008

From 4 May - 10 May 2008 MND Awareness Week was run around the country. This year people living with Motor Neurone Disease were asked to support the 2008 call to action  - "Living Better for Longer"

Around Tasmania generous volunteers donated their time and efforts to raise awareness and money for Motor Neurone Disease Tasmania. In the north of the state Senator Guy Barnett conducted a media interview with one of our members, Peter Vanderpluym and his wife Marty.

MND Tas Annual General Meeting (AGM)

On the 22nd March 2009 the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Motor Neurone Disease Tasmania is to be held at 90 Davey Street, Hobart. All members, friends and family are welcome. Jennene from MND Victoria and the MND DNA Bank from the University of Sydney will be in attendance.
